to be or not to be

I love Hamlet (and all things Shakespeare), and saw a lovely performance of it last year at the Sydney Opera House with Brendan Cowell and Sarah Blasko (as a player). But imagine if Hamlet were this sexy.... Would have haunted the crap out of my Aunty that's for sure.

clothing-induced headache

My head just imploded seeing this picture. I have this rule with my wardrobe, that I need to keep a mental inventory of what I own so that I can decide on outfits with ease and do it ahead of time. Seeing Daria's wardrobe just about gave me an anxiety attack! This wardrobe would require monk-like skill to keep a mental inventory. Not only that - but look at it. Think of the designers, the quality, the endless amount of fun you could have using that as your dress-up box. I need to stop... getting dizzy.

I just found out that there are people living in flood tunnels underneath Las Vegas. I can't show you pictures - they're all copyright. But you have to see this. Click here.

carnivale

I really want a circus party now.. seems I've been bombarded by it. Just had about 10 emails and facebook notices about circus workshops at carriageworks, was reminded earlier today about the circus-themed 3rd birthday party had by family loves magazine, and now these circus themed images from the London Fashion Week after party for Mulberry! Mmm fairy floss...

I have a new found love for Justin Lee Williams.

i see red, i see red, i see red.

When I woke up this morning, I could have sworn I was still dreaming. I opened my sleep-clouded eyes and out of my window, all I saw was a thick, eery red haze. At first I thought there was a fire, as off in the distance I could hear an alarm along with those repetitive instructions ingrained in my memory from my days at college: "evacuate as directed." But I took a deep breath in and smelled no smoke. I got on with my morning (as I was running late for work, having slept in initially thinking after seeing the haze that I had set my alarm early and it was, in fact, 5am. How wrong I was), and didn't find out until later that Sydney was shrouded in a blanket of dust. Yep, today, from Woolloongong to Newcastle we experienced the worst dust storm in the history of the state. Some combination of a low pressure system, high winds, and extreme drought conditions out west created this crazy weather.

In addition to this, NSW has been given an extreme wind warning, with winds reaching speeds of 100km/h in some areas! And all of this follows a massive thunderstorm that took place last night - just as I was about to leave work, of course. You would think that all this unusual and somewhat dangerous weather would have me worried. But it hasn't. Those who know me will remember that I am incredibly excited by storms and used to want to be a tornado-chaser like Helen Hunt in Twister. Although I may not be swept of to the land of Oz anytime soon, this weather is still making my days just that much more worthwhile.

close encounters of the blog kind

With Fashion Weeks going on across the globe, it seems that all bloggers are meeting each other in "the real world". As a result, they all post that they met this person and that person at this or that fashion show, and I have been clicking on links non-stop! Style and fashion blogs are everywhere. I thought I already checked far far too many daily (using up my free internet at work - which is not a fashion related job. Thus the constant need to check fashion blogs to indulge my habit). But the list continues to expand. Will it ever stop?!

I also had my own little blogging encounter - I met Anya of Oui Je Suis. She's a delightful girl who writes an equally delightful blog. It was a little surreal.

One last thought - how crazy-young are some fashion bloggers?! The youngest I know of is this little sprite below (far right), Tavi of Style Rookie fame. She's only thirteen and so teeny-tiny! Although I sometimes find that her youth seeps heavily into her writing style, which can be a little off-putting. Nevertheless, she even writes for popblog now. Insane!

Desire

Last night I went to see A Streetcar Named Desire at the Sydney Theatre. Needless to say, it was the best version of the play I have ever seen (this is the third time I've seen it - I'm quite fond of it). As per usual, but no less awe-inspiring, Cate Blanchett was flawless as Blanche DuBois - particularly in the final scene, and during the monologue about the boy she loved.

As fantastic as Cate was, however, the real show-stopper was Joel Edgerton as Stanley Kowalski. He was absolutely amazing. Better than Brando. Menacing, loving, brutal, tender.. all at once. And seeing his bum wasn't too bad either! I'm fairly sure tickets are sold out, but if you can manage to scrounge some up I highly advice you pay whatever they're asking! Also, for those outside of Australia, I believe the show is travelling to New York after this season finishes. GO SEE IT!

Longing for Laduree...

I desperately wish they would open up a Laduree Patisserie in Sydney....

wombat hollow

Michael Yabsley is probably best known for his political endeavours. But take note: he is not just a polititian - Michael is also a creative marvel when it comes to feathers and discarded treasures. For the past few years he has been taking old, seemingly useless objects and turning them into beautiful lamps (with the help of some friends in South Africa who send him shades of ostrich feathers, buffalo hide, and many other exotic materials). My personal favourites are the ostrich feather and porcupine quill shades, and the sprinkler and surveyors tripod bases... But it's so hard to chose absolute favourites! The old landmine cages make pretty interesting light patters as well.

Have a look for yourself and see if you can do the impossible and decide on a favourite... Wombat Hollow

mystery solved!

For months now I have been bugged by the mystery of the girl in the Cobrasnake photos... She's so captivating and no-one could tell me who she was. Everyone just called her "the Rachel Bilson twin". Now, from my "Mystery Inc"-like skills, I can tell you that her name is Atlanta de Cadenet, daughter of Duran Duran's (love!) John Taylor and actress Amanda de Cadenet. I feel so relieved.
